Recently, me and several colleagues began researching and putting together a plan of action to set up a branch of the NGO Project Hope Nablus Palestine in the Gaza Strip. I am the Medical Coordinator for Project Hope. I and several of my colleagues work throughout the West Bank teaching te general population of each city, village and camp basic first-aid and CPR . Currently, we are running a medical first -aid clinic with a Dr. Ismail Cassijmee from South Africa. In this last month over 1,00 people have attended the first-aid CPR Workshops learned what to do in an emergency and were seen and treated if nesscessary by Dr. Cassijmee. It has been a great sucess.
The Director of Project Hope Hakim Sabah has given me the privilidge of setting up and establishing our NGO in Gaza to serve the people of the region and work with the existing medical community there. With the help of my wonderful friend and colleague Gazan resident Adham Tobail( also a TIG member) We are in the process of writing a proposal and outlying the objectives for the unique situation that the people of Gaza deal with on an every day basis. I'm appealing to those of you in the region who might be interested in assisting us to contact me. I and another Project Hope Volunteer plan on doing a "fact finding" in Gaza this April.
Thanks to all of you who inspire me!!!!!!!!

working in Plaestine

I have just returned from my 3rd trip to Palestine. I was unfortunately only there this time for a little over two weeks. There is so much work to do that every time I have to leave to go back to the US I just wish I could stay a bit longer. The trip went by way too quickly. My team and I visited several different villages along with our usual camps and community centers in Nablus. We saw and treated only about 200 people this time. And I say only because doring longer stays the nummber of patients we see is usually around 500 to 600 . Nablus was relativey"quiet" this time around. There are more Palestinian police on the streets and The IOF stays away during day time hours for the most part. If anyone reading this happens to be in health care you would find it interesting to know that combo- meds like Statins with Niacin Antihypertensiveswith BetaBlockers have not yet been made available in this part of the world!! The Palestinian Docs. we worked with were literally amazed about the different med combos available. We were fortunate enough to bring in a large quanitiy of medication that we were able to treat our patients with and distribute to different clinics throughout the West Bank. Sadly, all of the medications we brought are ALL available in Israel. You can just imagine the feeling of frustration among the people when they find this out.
Like always, being among the Palestinian people is always a wonderful feeliing. Seeing old friends catching up on what's going on with eachother why sitting and having tea is one of my favorite things. Currently, we are trying to arrange permission with the Israeli's to gain acess into Gaza to provide some extra help in terms of medical relief. This is a long process and I'm hoping it will befruitful.
Take care to all,
Laura

Hi !
My name is Laura I'm a nurse from the US next week on Oct 30th I will be leaving for Nablus Palestine to continue working on a project I started 2 years ago. I put together a program called First-Aid and healthy living initatives. The objective is to teach people living in Nablus and all througout the West Bank CPR/ First-Aid. Volunteers are always needed and the program runs all year. Anyone interested in working in the West Bank let me know. We hope to expand one day into the Gaza Strip as well and perhaps with enough volunteers and networking we will be able to make this happen!
